Does this site look broken?. Use the LitterTray web for test cases.

(copied from TWiki:Support.WebLeftBarBoxesProblem)

Text in both the Jump and the Search boxes in the WebLeftBar loses its descenders such that (for example) j and i look identical. Other boxes are OK as is WebLeftBar if you jump to it as a normal TWiki page. I assume that the skin/CSS for the WebLeftBar must be causing the problem. How can I change this?

Well I've worked out part of the answer. I had my minimum font size set too large and the sidebar text entry boxes are a bit smaller than the default ones in the main Twiki pages.

This fixes the missing descenders but an initial capital J for example (as in the Jump box) still loses a bit of the J off the LHS.

I guess this is as much a browser problem as it is a TWiki problem.

Also a problem when entering underscores, which look like spaces.

Using Firefox 1.0.7 on Windows XP.

Boxes display normally using IE 6.0.2600

I am seeing the same in Firefox 1.5 on Windows XP. I use the normal font size that everyone will be using if they never changed it so I think TWiki should have the style sheet improved so it shows the text properly. Characters j, g, _, p. q, and y are unreadable in the boxes. If you decrease the text 2 levels below normal you can see the text but you cannot in practical read anything so this is not a work around. If you increase the text even normal characters gets cut.

In IE6 the problem is also present. If you increase the text to "larger" (common for people that have old eyes) the same problem is present in IE.

The problem is that the style sheet defines the height to a fixed 12 pts.

in pub/TWiki/PatternSkin/style.css line 610 the box is defined.

.patternLeftBarContents input.patternFormField {
height:12px; /* with padding and border this adds up to 16px height - same as button */
   font-size:85%; /*S3*/

Simply delete the height definition. The box seems to be more or less the height of the button next to it in normal font size both in IE and FF on Win XP. And if you increase the font the text box gets higher than the button. Well. I do not see this as a big issue. Userbility of the field is 100 times more important.

I suspect that a fixed formfield height (12px) with a relative font size (85%) will be problematic if users change the font size.

SVN 8095. Could you check if it is better now?

It is worse. The best I have tried is to remove the height definition.

New try: remove the height of the input fields. SVN 8097. AC

It works fine in all browser I have tried. Noone else have commented. I close it

The error was reintroduced with r8168.
