When you paste text into the edit area in TinyMCE - at least in topics with verbatim - the browser jump to verbatim area further up.
I experienced this in Item4457 when pasting in my signature. This is very very annoying and makes editing of large topics nearly impossible.

The jumping close to the top is happening on most types of topics.
When you edit a very long topic this becomes annoying beyond acceptable. Somehow some event is triggered by the paste function that makes you end up far away from where you are editing.

Where are you pasting from?
Anything. Just paste something into any long topic.
I have changed the headline now. It is any topic longer than what is visible on the screen. When you paste any text into the topic the view jumps to the top.
I did a demo to some colleagues today.
And they noticed right away this page jump when pasting and both said that this would be a shop stopper because copy and paste of text is something you do all the time and many of our topics are pretty long documents.
So if this is a TMCE bug then we need to address it before we can release this as the default editor.
This is Windows XP / IE6.

Just tried Firefox 2. It does not show this problem. But since most business users use crappy IE ...

Cha b'e là na gaoithe là nan sgolb.
The windy day is not the day for thatch-wattles.
I just pasted that text, and the cursor did not jump to the top of the topic :-/
Or rather, it did, but it jumped back to the right place.
Can you give me details of how to reproduce this?
I really cannot put more details. This is so basic and easy to reproduce.
You have a long topic. You go to the bottom. You paste any text into the window and you end up looking at the top of the document in the edit window. The minute you continue typing or move the cursor with the arrow keys you are back. But users will see the jump to the top and complain. I know. They did when I demoed the editor here yesterday. And it personally annoys me too that I cannot see the text I just pasted in until I continue typing and you cannot help taking the mouse and scroll down again.
This does not happen in a normal text edit window. Only in TMCE.
I am seeing this only in Internet Explorer and it is version 6 because that is still the only one allowed here.

Interesting. It appears that in IE, if the toolbar at the top of the textarea is visible when you do the paste (or maybe it's just the top of the textarea), then it jumps up in the text; not to the top of the text, but to some undefined point higher up. If the top of the textarea is off the screen, the paste works correctly.
I just don't know enough about TinyMCE internals, or what to expect on IE, to understand that behaviour. This may have to be pushed upstream.
As of SVN 14685 the browser does not jump to the top.
At least not here.
Anyone else can confirm this is fixed and close it?

Crawford. When you edited this topic a lot of <p> and </p> were added.
-- TWiki:Main.KennethLavrsen - 03 Sep 2007
At the <nop>TinyMCE demo site (http://tinymce.moxiecode.com/example_full.php?example=true) this is the current behaviour also (jumping to the top of the page on paste event in IE). Also seen reported elsewhere, i.e. http://tinymce.moxiecode.com/punbb/viewtopic.php?id=8433. Needs to be fixed upstream, not sure there's anything we can do about it - except reporting / voting for it of course.

A two-year old and closed bug in Tiny mentions a somewhat similar problem: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1255052&group_id=103281&atid=635682. If there's a way of tracking bugs vs. code commits in their setup it could perhaps be a way to find inspiration for a solution.

Marked as waiting for feedback from moxicode.
The creek has it that this is now fixed in the SVN trunk.
-- TWiki:Main.SteffenPoulsen - 10 Sep 2007
I have applied the patch in SVN. Let's see if the IE users are happy now.....
I don't see this bug on IE 6 or 7. But now every time when I paste text, I cannot save the topic without getting a dialog that warns me about navigating away. Either OK or Cancel keeps me on the edit page.
-- TWiki:Main.ArthurClemens - 11 Sep 2007
I still do not see the bug.
But I do see the "navigate away from page" warning which we normally only saw when cancelling away. It should not give that warning when you save.

No negative reports, so i guess it's fixed :-)
