Detail

Our problem seems to be related to bug report Item4506. Whenever we edit a long topic with the TinyMCE editor using Internet Explorer, select a text, click on the right mouse button, the editor jumps to the near top of the page. The problem also arises when we use the Menu bar. As soon as we hover over edit option, the editor also jumps to the near top of the page.

Related to this problem, we don’t have a Copy and Cut option in the menu that appears when clicking on a selected text using the right mouse button. The cut and copy are available under edit the menu bar though. We found some similar bug reports on this issue (no paste option in IE) and these where solved by either adding the TWiki site to Local Intranet in the security zone of IE or by enabling “Allow programmatic clipboard access” in the security zone of IE. Both solutions did not solve this problem.

First we thought this bug could be related to our environment and the policies set on our browser or OS, therefore we tested the following:

- Visited TWIki.org to check if the problem was related to our TWiki installation. But when I try to edit a topic in the sandbox, I encounter both problems.

- Visited both TWiki.org and our own TWiki server using IE6 and IE7. Both browsers seem to have the same problems.

- Visited both servers from my pc at home (Vista with IE8). In IE8 the problem with jumping to the near top seems to be over, but I still do not have the option to Cut or Copy the selected text using the right mouse button.

- Made a fresh installation on a virtual machine (Windows XP with IE7). Both problems still appear.

- Installed the newest version of TWIki (4.3.0), and the problem still seems to be there.

- Visited the example page of TinyMCE editor site (where you can try out the newest version of the editor). Both problems seem to be solved with the newer version of this editor. The problem with jumping to the top of the page is not there. When using the right mouse button, the editor uses its own menu (completely with cut, copy, past…..), therefore this problem is also solved in this way.

Because our company uses Internet Explorer as the default browser, we can’t tell everybody to switch form Internet Explorer to Firefox. We also have 2 other Wiki servers (running version 4.1.2, still using the old WYSIWYG editor) and we like to update both servers as soon as this bug is solved.

Thank you in advance for your help.
