Detail

I just upgraded from 4.0.3 to 4.1.2 had some links stop working. There are two categories of links.

First, links to subweb stopped working.

    * [[Foo/Bar][Foo Bar]]
Second, links with certain characters stop working:
---++[[Foo Bar (a.k.a., Fubar)]]
Used to link the topic: FooBar(aka,Fubar).txt, but now the links shows with the little question mark (same as above). -- TWiki:Main/EricHanson - 16 May 2007

This is the result of a compatibility issue. I had defined the rules in 4.0 to link subwebs the way you describe, but was beaten up corrected, and the behaviour reverted to the way Cairo worked, which breaks the type of link you describe.

The second type of link is a different kettle of fish. You used dots in the link name, which are parsed as subwebs. Arguably this should still work the old way if subwebs are disabled, but the code complexity and user confusion this would engender makes me think we shouldn't do it.

It would be straightforward to write a script to convert both types of link in existing topics; but that's the only solution I can suggest, I'm afraid.

No action in the code, but i checked the documentation and it's extremely weak on e rules for square brackets, so confirming this report.

CC

Linking to a sub web [[Foo.Bar]] prevented the creation of a topic [[Foo.Bar]].

This is currently a release blocker, any details of what parts of the doc need to be touched? TextFormattingRules? TWiki/WikiWord? The "Managing Webs" section of TWikiPreferences?

-- TWiki:Main.SteffenPoulsen - 03 Jun 2007

Yes, to all the above. Anywhere square bracket links are explained.

[23:35] <Lavr> I guess he wanted input on "which docs"
[23:36] <PeterThoeny> textformattingrules is one
[23:36] <PeterThoeny> wikiword another
[23:36] <PeterThoeny> i am not aware of any other doc that describes linking
[23:37] <Lavr> Let us stick to those two to close the bug
-- TWiki:Main.KennethLavrsen - 02 Jul 2007

Doc improved. Believe this should be enough. Waiting for release.
