Detail

Quite irritating that after entering the admin login your are completely lost on the main web homepage.

-- TWiki:Main/ArthurClemens - 10 Feb 2008

yeah, i thought you'd fixed that :/

-- TWiki:Main.SvenDowideit - 13 Mar 2008

During the release meeting Michael Daum tested this and he did not see the issue. Maybe we need more people to confirm that we indeed have this bug.

-- TWiki:Main.KennethLavrsen - 17 Mar 2008

damn, i can only confirm that i failed to reproduce it (using pattern skin)

  • view sandbox webindex | hit login | hit admin login | OK
  • view sandbox webhome | hit create topic | hit admin login | OK etc

-- TWiki:Main.SvenDowideit - 31 Mar 2008

and it works similarly in my mtskin setup

The odd thing is i thought i many have seen t once or twice too - but was busy with other things at the time.

-- TWiki:Main.SvenDowideit - 31 Mar 2008

Seems that as there is no var-expansion in templates the origurl= param was not passed through. This 2 line patch seems to fix it. Arthur, could you test?

-- TWiki:Main.ColasNahaboo - 14 Apr 2008

Seems Colas is waiting for Arthur

There is one more thing. The error dialogs do not allow a good flow.

For instance, I want to create a new web. After filling out the form, if I am not logged in as admin I get this error message:

Attention

Access check on Main.WebHome failed. Action "CHANGE": access not allowed on root.

Contact arthur@visiblearea.com if you have any questions.

Log in as internal admin if you need to quickly fix something

"internal admin" is a link. When I follow the link, TWiki loses my intention. I go the the login screen and am redirected to the Main homepage, instead of creating the new web for me. I need to go back to TWiki web, topic ManagingWebs, and fill out the form again.

-- ArthurClemens - 30 Apr 2008

Dunno why this is in New state; from the above I would judge it to have been triaged. I am certainly able to reproduce it, simply by logging on as admin from the standard login screen in a default, out of the box, TWiki.

Confirmed, but still waiting for someone to fix it.

-- CC - 01 May 2008

If it is too difficult to fix then we could simply remove the sudo links from the oops and normal template login screen so it is only visible on the TWikiAdminGroup topic from where I believe the sudo login works.

I personally lever liked that we present this admin related dialog to normal non admin users in login screens and message screens.

Considering the concern Lynnwood raised in TWiki:Codev.CentralizeAndHideAdminInstructions I find this much more important to avoid displaying to the non-admins.

If you are an admin and you like to work as a non-admin normally and only use Sudo then you are pretty advanced as a TWiki admin and then you can put a sudo login link in your personal left bar.

I have no concern about the sudo feature being displayed on TWikiAdminGroup because that topic is not part of a normal user interface we present to normal users. If a normal user somehow gets himself navigated to TWikiAdminGroup he will not suffer from seeing the login instruction. On TWikiAdminGroup the feature is smart because it allows us to ship TWiki with this important topic secured by default. And when doing a sudo login from TWikiAdminGroup it is important that you land on TWikiAdminGroup after a successful authentication.

For the template login screen and Attention screens I would remove the link to the sudo login.

If you all agree I can volunteer to remove the links from the templates.

-- TWiki:Main.KennethLavrsen - 01 May 2008

Removing this link would solve the problem of the wrong flow. Still, some message needs to be at places like ManagingWebs. Perhaps that form can be disabled as long as not logged in as admin.

-- TWiki:Main.ArthurClemens - 02 May 2008

Fixed by removing the admin login link from login screen and oops message

Note that you can still login as "admin" and configure password and there is still the links in TWikiAdminGroup.

This fix just removes the admin login link from dialogs.

One less urgent release blocker.
