One of the most commonly used topics: TextFormattingRules looks awful in Internet explorer. Text is outside the columns in the table.

And the tables have fixed column width. You cannot see the entire table on an 1024x768 screen.

I think this is the most used help topic. All new users have it open all the time. It must be useable.

This is due to a long line that has been added to the verbatim section of the Specific Links row:

 [[WikiSyntax][wiki syntax]]

 [[mailto:barretts@wimpole.street][write to the Barretts]]

In firefox it gets scrollbars but not in IE. I'm not sure if this can be fixed in the CSS or not.

The verbatim becomes a <pre> tag that is handled by the following CSS in style.css

pre, code, tt {
   line-height:1.4em; /*S1*/
/* put overflow pre in a scroll area */
pre {
    margin:1em 0; /* Win IE tries to make this bigger otherwise */
html>body pre { /* hide from IE */
   /*\*/ overflow:auto !important; /* */ overflow:scroll; width:auto; /* for Mac Safari */
/* IE behavior for pre is defined in twiki.pattern.tmpl in conditional comment */

and the following is from twiki.pattern.tmpl and ends up in the html of the page:

<!--[if IE]>
pre {
   padding-bottom:expression(this.scrollWidth > this.offsetWidth ? 16 : 0);

wouldn't it be easier to mail x@yNOSPAM.com instead? wink

Just tried that. Helps on the width but other changes have been made since the Cairo version that makes the middle column wider.

And the 3rd column is still outside its box.

I tried to copy the old topic from Cairo to see how it is shown in Dakar and then there is no problem.

So it takes some more simplifications. I actually liked the old topic where the rows had lines and everything. It was easier to find things.

I have edited the new topic.

I changed the table so it does not use the class="twikiTable". That was the reason for the column alignment to go crazy.

And I made all the verbatim examples shorter. The topic now looks great in both IE and FF.

I have attached both the entire edited topic and a diff against the version on SVN.

A couple of validation fixes, the right twikiTable rendering and a small fix to style.css (td paddings seem to need px instead of em).

SVN 7721. AC

minor quibble, verbatim says a@b.street, actual link is to a@b.com. SH
