Does this site look broken?. Use the LitterTray web for test cases.

I got the error:

maketext doesn't know how to say:
_in all public webs_
as needed

I have replaced my (newly added) _ by <em>. I also see a msgid "_language_name" in the pot file, but that one works out fine, looking at oopschangelanguage.

Messages starting with underscores are reserved.

Please don't use formatting inside translatable strings when you can avoid it!

What about _%MAKETEXT{"Whatever you want"}%_ instead?

It cannot be solved that way when the formatting should end half way. %MAKETEXT{"_Whatever_ you want"}%

Well, I documented in TWikiVariables that translatable strings should not start with an underscore. There's not much to do re this.

Summary MAKETEXT does not handle phrases starting with _
