Does this site look broken?. Use the LitterTray web for test cases.
There are now two ways to set topic variables: in the topic text via Set and via the settings mechanism (from the More screen). Apparently META:PREFERENCE takes precedence, which is probably right, but having two different mechanisms is confusing enough, without the extra problem that it's the less visible setting that takes precedence.

I'm not sure what the solution is, since previously the in-text Set mechanism was the only one and so ignoring it will break potentially bezillions of topics. A warning of some sort might be in order, since this will have no effect unless someone has gone in to set a PREFERENCE or a new topic has been created from a template that had a PREFERENCE set. I certainly don't want the META:PREFERENCE taken out, since it's a move in the right direction.

Thoughts, anyone?

ML

Is this META:PREFERENCE in DEVELOP or TWiki4. branch? I can't see it on DTO.

MC

It's in 4.0. manage.pm?action=editsettings, and in the more page.

I think this is an issue that needs to be discussed in Codev. It's not a bug, so setting no action.
