Does this site look broken?. Use the LitterTray web for test cases.

We ought provide a command line tool to set passwds from the command line.

Using htpasswd destroys any email address stored against the user's account.

As a minimum we need to find a good place to warn the admin against this.

Proposals for which docs needed.

Increasing this to urgent. At least for the doc. Because we now have a couple of examples of admins that lost email addresses which can be hard or impossible to recover if you do not have a good backup.

Added doc

It would be less devastating if there was a revision history for the .htpasswd file.

I'll attempt a TWiki:Plugins.CommandSet to address this tomorrow. I'll do so on the express understanding that it will not turned into yet another script bundled or put up for download.

Summary Using htpasswd on the command line wipes out email address in .htpasswd file
