Spin off bug report from Item2365
Read the whole background there.
The short story.
When we have the email addresses stored in the secret .htpasswd we still have an email field in the UserForm
which is then only used for public display and can be used by the user to show any email address or a real one padded in a very special way like mymail (at) mydomain (dottely-dot) dk
But will the user actually understand that this email address means nothing to TWiki and that the real one need to be changed elsewhere.
An attempt to help this was to hide the email field in this case but many of us still want to put a public email address. So we have to accomodate both.
The task here is to document this in less than 10 words or by using icons or whatever on the users topic.
I will think of a way. Proposals very welcome.
I still have not figured out where in the code that it is decided if the email address is copied to the new user topic or not.
I am playing with the thought of writing something else INSTEAD of the email address in the Email field in the form - when the email is NOT copied over from the registration form. And to keep it i18n friendly I was thinking about some small icon indicating that the email address is secret. But to experiment and maybe implement the idea as a trial I would need to understand how to inject it. At first I would not check in the change but just try it for review on my test server.
I had to remove some horrible side-effecting code (thanks, Martin!) but i think i have it right now.
Wrong bug report you closed here. It was Item2365.
This bug relates to the email field in the User Form. And mainly how we documents its use without confusing people. 2365 is the one for the new "My Personal Data" Email field.
What is the disposition of this report? It has been open without obvious action for some time now....
I have thought about this and have not found any good doc only way to resolve this. TWiki supports different "markets" and there is no easy way to make things perfect for all.
I now have 3 different types of user topics. Old Cairo. Twiki4.0.0 and the latest type. Adding a 4th type is not resolving anything. I prefer keeping the current user topic format unchanged now.
Since this was my own bug report I feel OK by simply discarding it.
