We need to write a proper release note for TWiki 4.1
We already have the topic on SVN but it is empty.
I am taking the action of doing the first shot. Expect to see a lot of item updates on Bugs web - because the list of waiting for release items must have good headlines and be marked as Minor.
Bugs that were introduced after 4.0.5 and fixed should be closed instead of waiting for release.
While I action the release note for now, please do not hold back on updating the headlines on bugs web or close bugs that should not be in the release note.
It took about 8 hours to walk through all bug items. Changing many headlines, changing many status between bug and enhancement, closing a few that were actually not released for this release or never merged in from DEVELOP (1).
While I did that I added approx half of them on a highlight list.
I then grouped them, and removed half again. I hope I managed to get the most important listed and in a way that admins and users can relate to.
I also took some artistic freedoms and listed a few bugfixes in the enhancement section where I felt it better communicated the message because there was already a group of enhancements related to same feature. However I did not flip those to Enhancement in bugs web.
The day of release I need to add the complete lists of bugs and enhancements.
Meanwhile feel free to enhance the release notes. I keep this bug item in Actioning until release and close it when the lists are added.
How do we attach TWikiHistory
I am not personally going to trace who did which feature. In 4.1 there has been more contributors then ever. And often many doing the same feature.
There is also work not in release note - like test cases, build script, benchmark framework, translations that needs credits in history.
I have made a TWikiHistory
which is basically a mirror of the release note
I propose we ask Crawford to make an additional HallOfFame
table that shows ALL the contributors since 4.0.0 for all core and default plugins bugfixes as well as enhancements and the number of contributions ordered with Crawford at the top.
This is easier and I think it is sufficient. Checking in TWikiHistory with FIXMEs so other can contribute.
