Does this site look broken?. Use the LitterTray web for test cases.

The new Dakar registration sends the user a registration code and URL via e-mail to the registered address.

This bug is not about the intrinsic security of e-mail.

There is no need to have the registration ode or the users name on the subject line. This exposes the mechanism to an easily avoided and unnecessary risk.

While few MTAs log the content of all traffic, most do log the soruce and destination and some also log key information such as the subject line for various reasons such as debuging.

The mechanism also e-mails the wiki webmaster with a copy of the registration mail. The webmaster may not necessarily be receiving mail on the hosting machine, so the same risk applies.

The problem lies in the template registerconfirm.tmpl

I suggest a subject very different

  • "Here is your verification for code for %WIKITOOLNAME %"
  • "How to activate your %WIKIOOLNAME account"

Fixed - SVN4375 - thanks Anton! CC
