I did a clean install of twiki 4.1 on a Mac with OS X 10.4, went through the configure steps, updated access rights as I had done already successfully for 4.0 and all its upgrades before.
When I tried to use the cleanly installed 4.1 version (before starting to copy my data, preferences, and plugins from the old installation) it turned out that the pattern skin was broken, I saw the web default font (I think it is times), no top bar, left bar further down (as if a div was element was open somewhere else), and basically all the CSS was broken. Any idea why?
Sounds to me like the web server has access right problems to the pub directory tree.
The 4.1 tgz has different access rights per default than 4.0 had. It was assumed that the new settings would be better for most installations.
But maybe your Mac install does not like it like we have made it now.
The symptom you describe fits with the server not being able to serve the css files for the skin.
You can try and look at the source code which contains the URL path for the css. And then try to load it directly. If you cannot then it is either your file access rights OR your apache config which is wrong.
This looks more like a support question than a bug.
I will not keep it open for many days. Reporter please provide the requested feedback
Just checked at TWiki.org. User LpB
does not exist.
Was he removed because he did not register with a proper user name?
In any case he will never provide feedback unless he re-registers under a proper WikiName
Hi Kenneth, sorry for the delay, I got around to find time to retry and then My user name at twiki had disappeared so I had to reregister
You were right. I redid everything from scratch and now it works. I can only guess that when I copied my old twiki_httpd.conf over to enable access to the new installation I did a mistake renaming some of the paths. Sorry for the confusion.
thank you very much for your help, and sorry again for disappearing on you!

You probably disappeared because you did not register with a proper name but with a name that a spammer will normally use.
The twiki.org policy is to register under your real name or if privacy is important a pseudonym that we will then all know you by.
Here on bugs web the regulars sign with initials but if you follow the initials you till see that KJL
(Kenneth Jahn Lavrsen)
If you loose your username again then you know why. The maintainer of twiki.org is hard but fair.
