Item4286: Group topics in GROUPS variable are not linked

You are assuming that groups are topics. If I am using a different user mapper, and groups are coming from - for example - LDAP, then there is no topic. Not sure what the solution is, just pointing this out. Marked for Sven's attention, he is best qualified to comment ATM.

Linking needs to be done conditionally. No link if external source, must link if TWiki group (or it is not possible the access & change the group.)

This is the same issue as getWebDotWikiName() - which only makes sense for topic based users, I'll have to poke the code
