I always though that this:

$params->{class}
   ? $class = $params->{class} . ' autoCompleteInput'
   : $class = 'autoCompleteInput';

was the same as:

if( $params->{class} ){
   $class .= $params->{class} . ' autoCompleteInput';
} else {
   $class = 'autoCompleteInput';
}

But its not, only the second one works... Newbie mistake smile
