It is nice to experiment with various stylels, but shouldn't we reach some sort of stability? Just as we got used to the tabs on top, they are replaced by orange buttons...

  • I received feedback here on DEVELOP (forgot who) that the MediaWiki-like tabs are not suitable - and that's right. TWiki's page model is different.
Unfortunately because 'everyone' is working in the templates I have to do the style developing also here - otherwise all kinds of versioning errors get introduced. -- AC

Michael Daum has a nice feature where you can change the appearance very easily on his wiki, maybe we could emulate that, rather than keep changing around to find the "perfect" appearance.

  • That's a nice idea but I don't see it ready for Dakar. -- AC

i'd like for the orange to be replaced with BGCOLOR

  • Brrgh. -- AC

in fact, i'm lamenting the loss of the use of BGCOLOR in lots of places... -- WN

  • You mean the left menu? --{[AC]]

In addition, the new order of commands is unintuitive.... the most used (edit) should come first, not last. --TW

  • This only happens with WYSIWYG plugin, I don't know why. -- AC

Also: pattern skin style got a lot simpler (66% of line count). I hope to have a base now to create ColorPalette. -- AC

While I like the orange style and think its a nice way of defining the look and feel of baseline TWiki, the MediaWiki like buttons weren't that bad.

Consider this: many people come from the MediaWiki world and don't know the 'under the hood model' at all. But if things look like they are in teh right place it makes them feel (psychologiocally) comfortable. Like the kid in the Jurassic Park movie "Oh, this is UNIX, I can handle this!"

But yes, the skins and palettes ar wonderful, but we need more tools to 'automate' and deliver them. Writing skins is a bitch of a job! -- TWiki:Main.AntonAylward

Please revert the standard style back to plain and flat white. The orange (and other) gradients don't add value to the interface, they are IMHO not KISS! -- FJ
Please give me the option of retaining the right flush orage tabs as well as the left flush WikiMedia-looking tabs.

-- TWiki:Main.AntonAylward

I've re-created the buttons in such a way that it is easy to give them a real tab-like appearance (rollover: no background and white underline). The orange background image is commented out in twiki.pattern.tmpl and can easily be turned on by removing the comments. Placing the buttons at the left is currently not possible, because the left part is a vertical table (!) column set in view.pattern.tmpl is also possible by setting the float of the buttons holder to left and setting the button's horizontal offset margins to right. -- AC
