Because my default settings disable Javascript I wanted to disable WYSIWYG in configure, and tried to do so by disabling WysiwygPlugin. However, disabling WysiwygPlugin, but not TinyMCEPlugin in configure gives an error in the textarea when trying to edit a file:
There was a problem retrieving the page: Internal Server Error
If TinyMCEPlugin needs WysiwygPlugin so badly then it should take care for activating it under the hood, or deactivate itself if WysiwygPlugin isn't operable.
Though I've been following the rumours to some extent, I managed to make this blunder. For a newcomer I guess it is even more difficult to guess that a name like "TinyMCE" is related to WYSIWYG editing.

Excellent point. Raised to Urgent, as this is bound to catch someone out.
Later: it now disables itself.
