Signature in the copy/paste field when editing is suddenly in square bracket form.
This is a bit geeky for the users.
This has changed very recently and is visible here on Bugs.

Geeky, maybe. However, it is
necessary if you want the author link in the signature to work in case of NOAUTOLINK pages. Teaching users that they need to bracket their signatures if there's a NOAUTOLINK in the page (or in its hidden settings) is quite as geeky, isn't it?

when will someone mention mediawiki's ~~~ ?? it seems odd that TWiki knows who you are, but you have to C&P your linked identitiy anyway.

Harald. I cannot accept that a NOAUTOLINK setting that I do not use turned a user interface into more geek than it already is. I cannot accept to present this horror signature to my users.
Then we have to make the signature string depending on the setting of NOAUTOLINK in the template with an IF. And then I suggest the signature with the NOAUTOLINK simply is without the Main prefix. It is really bad to present the square bracket geekyness to a user that may not know TWiki very well and uses the Wysiwyg editor.
Sven. Why not raise a feature proposal for the ~~~ ? I think it is a good idea.

Strange. I only see this on Bugs. Not on my home test server. Why?

I encountered another reason to support a different signature format recently, so I have raised a feature request.

Just for the records: The change came as part of
TWikirev:16686
,
Item5335. Arthur seems to have implemented the suggestion I've made in that topic. I don't insist on the change for pattern or other skins, I don't even
care (since I've made the change in my own corporate skin).

Note that this bug only affacts trunk as
Item5335 has not been merged to
TWikiRelease04x02 - AND SHOULD NOT BE. See my comments on 5335.
Putting square brackets everywhere to accomodate NOAUTOLINK is not the correct approach when it comes to the places where we deal with user names. They will not always need to point to a topic in Main.

This sort of thing has been bugging all my users with non-default usermappers too. The assumption that there are always user topics is wrong - some of the TWiki's I have been involved with specifically want non-linked references to users. Others have external url's that those user names should be linked to.
I guess that the rendering of wikinames, and specifically linked WIKINAMEs needs to be re-done with configuration options and a code interface that allows the usermapper to over-ride it.
eg - the
Hello PeterPiper
link, the signature, and other things should migrate to use
%DISPLAYNAME%
or something - whish in configure defaults to something.

I have been considering this one.
As Sven writes the changes in general - not just the signature - will be bugging any installation in which you do not use the user mapping to wiki names.
The change that was done do make TWIki work with NOAUTOLINK.
Many internal links were depending on Wikiword linking so most o the change is 100% correct and OK. It is only the few places in the user interface where the username has been changed to square bracket notation. This causes lot of bogus ?-mark links to non-existing topics for many installations.
Removing the square bracket linking to usernames/wikinames has the consequence that Wikinames will not be linked when you have NOAUTOLINK.
But thinking about it - if people turn off the wikiword linking - will they really want the linking to users home page?
And is it a key feature that in every user interface we have usernames links to a home page?
I suggest we maintain all the changes done to links to documentation and user interface pages like registration etc. But change the links to wikinames/usernames back to simple plain text so they only link when NOAUTOLINK is not used.
I think this is the best compromise. I can do the change if noone objects.

I think it is ok to revert. We need to look at a configurable or smart solution.
