Does this site look broken?. Use the LitterTray web for test cases.

Two concerns:

  1. It would be useful to have a standard topic through which to create new topic... in Sandbox and Bugs we build 'create topics' and I also do this at http://wiki.conceptmapping.org/Discussion/WebHome. See http://wiki.conceptmapping.org/Discussion/WebHome?raw=on and http://wiki.conceptmapping.org/Discussion/WebDiscussionCreator?raw=on; these would go in the _default web.

I agree with Martin that for new users, it really helps to have a special CreateNewTopic page! I would just add that I've been very please with the approach I implemented in TopicClassificationAddOn that leverages a single CreateNewTopic to allow creating any number of different topic types by INCLUDING form elements for each type. You can view my setup here. I think this approach is worth considering for a standard set-up. And I'm sure some of the new features and superior design skills of the team could improve this basic idea!

Agreed. I already implement this in my application webs.

Ok. I will start porting my WebTopicCreator topics into TWiki in the next couple of hours.

svn commit WebTopicCreator.txt -m "Item574: First iteration, Sandbox web only. Please go to http://develop.twiki.org/~develop/cgi-bin/view/Sandbox/WebTopicCreator and test it. Note the TODOs. I want to centralise the JS code and hide with CSS the irrelevant controls. I do not know how to do this. Please feel free to take this forward - I can do a bit more tonight but am unavailable for 2 days after" Adding WebTopicCreator.txt Transmitting file data . Committed revision 6889.

An oops is the other way to do it:

This is an enhancement. Dakar will not wait for it.

The creator pages do exist in _default, Sandbox and TWiki. A link from the TopButtonBar is the next step.

MC

I'd like to complete implementation of this feature because i think not having a simple, clear way to create new topics is a BIG usability issue for new users. (And we're so close...) So I propose to:

  1. Add a "Create New Topic" (with icon) to default WebLeftBar in all webs (except maybe TWiki?).
  2. Add MAKETEXT variable to instructions in WebTopicCreator.

Suggestions where to put "Create New Topic" link in WebLeftBar? I'm thinking after the preferences link.

LB

Under preferences is fine, either that or under Home.

I guess the other web-controls are in the left bar, so it goes there.

In Ed* we ought move the controls to a topic or template and allow them to be styled etc.

MC

Added "Create New Topic" after Preferences in WebLeftBar in _default and Sandbox webs.

svn 7038-40 (OK, it took me a couple of tries.)
