Bottom Line On Top

The WebStatistics are not computing the correct numbers for top contributors. I expected 177 under the top contributor for the user DougTorence and got nothing.

There appears to be a bug surrounding WebStatistics. In my TWiki installation I wanted to manually update the WebSatistics topic by running the stats script via the browser by enter this into my URL. /twiki/bin/statistics/Main?logdate=200807

Below are the results I received.

July 2008 Log File

Attached is the actual log file from July 2008. If I look in this log file I see 177 saves for Doug Torence however, he doesn't show up at all. Is this a bug? Forgive me if I simply don't understand how this works. Thank you.

I'm having some problems uploading my log file. I'll upload it as soon as I can.

177 seems like a massive discrepancy - yes, I fear looking at the log file is necessary. - email it to me if you like - sven@fosikiNOSPAM.com

Sven, sorry this took me so long to respond. I'm email the file to you now. Thanks for looking into this.

ah, ok, this isn't a bug. While Doug Torence has saved 177 times, 103 of them were 'repRev' saves - where he's re-edited the same topic within an hour (i think its configurable?), thus TWiki has merged the edit into the previous revision.

i can't find the documentation on this at the moment - Its been discussed several times in TWiki:Codev though.

macpro:Documents svend$ grep DougTorence log200807.txt |grep save | wc
     177    3626   21240
macpro:Documents svend$ grep DougTorence log200807.txt |grep save |grep repRev | wc
     103    2368   14149

Thanks again for looking into this. Then why does DanDavis show up 3 times? Of the three saves he has 2 were repRev saves. Based on your logic I would assume then to only see 1 listed by his name not 3.

$ grep ' save ' log200904.txt | grep ' Support\.' | grep PeterThoeny | wc -l
$ grep ' save ' log200904.txt | grep -v repRev | grep ' Support\.' | grep PeterThoeny | wc -l

So the statistics script records all changes, including the repRevs.

Note that there is a chance that the log files have some corrupted lines that might offset the stats by a tiny bit. This can happen if more than one webserver thread is updating the logfile at a time.

I am closing this ticket. Feel free to re-open if needed.
