This Bug is connected to a EditTablePlugin Bug (Bugs.Item6062).
1. Createa Topic with Umlauts (ä ü ö) an a table with
%<nop>EDITTABLE{}%
2. Spoil the verbatim-tag as explained in Bugs.Item6062
3. Edit and Save with WYSIWY, all Umlauts are destroyed
I have also tried this on
my sandbox
:
check revisions 6 -9
Umlauts: ä ü ö
%EDITTABLE{}%
| <!--verbatim3--> | Test |
<nop>

I do not see this effect. I would see the same with ÆØÅ also every day
Do you run your TWiki with UTF8?
UTF8 is considered experimental and we have at least 20 open UTF8 bugs. UTF8 is only recommended when TWiki is used for Chinese/Japanese.

Hi Kenneth, I created the output in my Sandbox on twiki.org -->
TWiki:Sandbox.CedricWeberSandbox
as mentioned above. I guess you're not using UTF8 since there is a prominent note at the top of the site ;). Anyway, as also mentioned in
Item6062 no UTF8 in use...

This happens when I have a unknown character (UTF(?) in my topics and then edit with wysiwyg. E.g. ap page with:
 üüüäääö
turns to:
 üüüäääö
after editing with wysiwyg. Sadly there are quite some pages containing such characters in our wiki...

If you use UTF8 in topics on a site that isn't configured for UTF8, there is nothing that can be done. There is no way (other than human intervention, and even that's dodgy) to guess what encoding was used to create a TWiki topic.
Please read the primer section of
TWiki:Codev.UnderstandingEncodings
