If an email address occurs at the end of a sentence, the auto-generated mailto: link includes the sentence's closing period. For example, the mailto: link in the following sentence includes the trailing period as of this writing.

Obviously, the trailing period needs to be excluded from the mailto: link. Though much less problematic, a hyphen has the same issue as a period, which needs to be addressed as well.
