Besides topic name, the WebTopicCreator should ask for the parent topic.

How:

  • Show a picklist with:
    • All topics in the current web
    • Default is originating topic (topic where user clicked on "create new topic")
    • Show a "no parent (orphaned)" as the last option
  • Add a recommendation note to add links in other topic(s) to the new topic so that the page can be found

Reason:

  • Educational: Make users aware that there is a parent child relationship
  • Reduces the number of orphaned topics
  • Better navigation/browsing experience

If anyone gets a chance, please feel free to incorporate these into the TWiki.WebTopicCreator -- MC

A scrollable list (like in More) would be a nicer interface; the dropdown box list tends to be very long and selecting from it is tedious. -- AC

although neither is scalable to thousands or tens of thousands of topics... -- WN

Then you would need a paginated (A - Z) web index in a popup to help selecting. Type ahead would be nice but then you must know or guess the topic names. -- AC

Set size of selector to 10, SVN 7381.
